Oak Ray Hotels

A beautiful hotel with friendly staff and high standards. Thoroughly enjoyed two week’s stay at this hotel. Restaurant was exceptionally good the setting offered a calm and serene view of the Mahaweli River. The bedroom too had a spacious balcony with a close view of the river.

This review concerns the restaurant, we didn’t stay at the hotel as guests. We were driven here by our guide for lunch, and we understood right away this is part of the tourists traps laid along the way to Kandy. We had just stopped at a wood carving place before, and, go figure, we saw the same “franchise” here. The buffet was packed, with not enough space between tables. The washrooms were dirty, as were the tables (we saw the staff just “cleaning” them after the clients were finished with used napkins…). I believe not much has been retained after Covid times. Oh well. Also, the buffet quality was very bad. And no price displayed anywhere. I had to ask an employee how much the buffet was per person (3500 LKR, beverages not included) before picking up a plate. We ate almost nothing, and what we ate wasn’t good (the fruits were ok). We had much preferred going to our hotel instead, as it was closer than this one, and the quality was better judging by the dinner we had there (also buffet). If your driver suggests you to come here, because “it’s a really nice place”, try to go elsewhere (our hotel, The Golden Crown, had much better environment, cleanliness and better food).

It was such an awesome stay we had at the Oak Ray Regency Kandy. Rooms were cozy and spacious, quiet yet nice environment. Staff is really helpful. Special thanks to Mr. Tiran, who is a really friendly gentleman who looked into every need and didn't forget to stop for a friendly pep-talk whenever he sees us! Food was really delicious yet the buffet carried a small variety comparatively to other peers. Highly recommended place! 👌

Room given was big and spacious; and so was the toilet. The room also had a beautiful river view. Location was where the wood carving, batik and cultural dance experiences were at. The rooftop pool was a highlight for me. It was very clean with a beautiful view. Sunset at the pool was particularly stunning. I traveled with my elderly mother who was sick the day we checked in and the resident manager was kind to allow our guide to come up to our room area to check in on us to bring Mom to hospital for medicine; and then check in on us after we returned and followed up the next day. After a few hiccups with room service food I ordered for Mom and I, the hotel managers did their best to turn the experience around for us upon feedback. Overall, I am grateful for their care and service level. Thank you.

The new hotel manager, Suranga, is fantastic. What an asset to the hotel. professional, friendly and honest. Our child became ill and had to go to the hospital several times. Suranga has always offered his help, which we are very grateful for. The rest of the staff is also very nice and does everything they can to make you comfortable. should we ever go back to Kandy, we will stay at this hotel again
