Trummer's customer reviews

I was really looking forward to trying Trummers after seeing such amazing reviews. I visited with a large group of ladies and it seemed like their portions were fine. They had the smash burgers($16) and salads($20). I ordered the pumpkin risotto ($25) and a coffee. I was really surprised to see the portion size of the risotto. I definitely had the least amount of food and paid the most. I left hungry. The risotto was delicious but NOT worth what I paid. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was pretty.

What's good? The Pork Wienerschnitzel was delicious and the lamb chops were good. The steak tartare was decent. The potato salad that came with the Schnitzel had a lot to desire, the ham on the fish my wife ordered didn't go well with the dish in our opinion, and the pasta dish my friend had was ok.

Rather disappointing food for the price. First the good: nice little squash tart appetizer, good salad. Bone marrow- rich. The bread pairing should have been the crostini that was with the baked Brie, in our opinion; it would’ve held up nicer to all that oily rich spread. Good cocktails/mocktails. Unfortunately, the star (or what should’ve been) of the meal- the rack of lamb- did NOT live up to the expectation OR the price tag. We asked correctly for medium rare. The chops came out mostly not medium rare, not even rare- but raw. Glistening, tough, raw. Of course you want a good red hue on a rack of lamb, with a nice crust, not a deep maroon with a marbling of flabby fat. Not sure if it was a firing (timing) issue, a temperature issue, or what, but we sent them back to get more sear (or try to- it’s kind of hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube). Even when they returned with a more medium rare cook, there was no flavor to the meat. We were also confused by the pesto, a bright pretty green you expected to have some herbaceous freshness or even a tang of citrus- a flick of garlic, SOMETHING, but it had me baffled as to how a pesto could be simultaneously greasy and bland. I kept wishing salt and pepper shakers were still a thing on restaurant tables. The potatoes in duck fat were supposed to be crunchy and decadent- they lacked flavor, and if someone said they were merely plain roasted and then microwaved (and not particularly fresh tasting - you expect an internal creaminess as a contrast to a nice fat-roasting) I would’ve with regret believed it. Again, it had me wanting salt. And pepper. The service was certainly nice- three people came to check that the lamb was correct when it came back out, and we definitely appreciated such gracious service. Dessert was a trio of sorbet and ice cream, which were absolutely delicious. Refreshing, fruity, minty, not overly sweet. A really nice ending. It made us want to try all the pastry chef’s desserts. Overall however; for a $180 bill (before tip), we expected a TAD better luck with the food, especially since neither of us had been before, and it had been on my list to try for years. Super service (our server was attentive, made helpful suggestions, and clearly knows her way around the menu), and you can really tell they want the experience to be a pleasant one; maybe just work on some of the basics in the kitchen.

Excellent time. We arrived a little early and sat in the lounge and had water and some wine and beer. They had our reservation down for 7:15 but we had requested 7 and they worked promptly to move us up to 7 and we were seated by 7:05. Dinner was excellent. The waiter gave us some great recommendations and the food came out rather quickly. It tasted excellent and was served very pretty. Overall a great experience.
